Jonathan Mettam - Winemaker
With a passion for food and wine and a love of the Margaret River region, Jonathan's winemaking journey began when he took a vintage job at Amberley Estate winery in Yallingup in 1994.
The thrill of landing in an exciting and dynamic industry with working opportunities all over the world saw Jonathan immediately leave Australian shores to experience an overseas vintage at Amity Vineyards in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. The Willamette Valley (1965) and Margaret River (1967) wine regions were established at the same time and both represented brave new winemaking frontiers striving to make wines to compete with the best in the world. Both regions were an inspiration to Jonathan, representing boundless new worlds of opportunity.
A couple of years of overseas travel followed before Jonathan completed undergraduate studies (Economics/Environmental Science at Murdoch University) part-time whilst pursuing his career working as Cellar Manager at Sandalford Wines (1998-2000) and then Houghton's Winery (2001) in the Swan Valley。
In 2002, Jonathan attained a postgraduate diploma in Oenology from Adelaide University and immediately embarked on a vintage winemaking role with Reh-Kendermann in the Mosel Valley, Germany. His fascination with the wine and people of the Mosel saw a return there for a further 4 vintages, and he looks forward to more in the future.
2003 saw Jonathan make the inevitable return to the Margaret River region, this time with his wife and two daughters, for the assistant winemaking role at Wise Wines. Three vintages later I made the move to 3 Oceans Wine Company where I remain as operations winemaker.
"3 Oceans is a fantastic facility to make wine in and I feel honoured to work with such a dedicated team committed to making wine of outstanding quality。"
几年的海外游历之后，Jonathan完成了本科学业（经济/环境科学，莫道克大学），在此期间，先后在Sandalford Wines（1998-2000）和天鹅谷的Houghton's Winery (2001)担任酒窖经理。
